They Voted Against the Torture Amendment

These nine Senators voted against the Torture Amendment. For some reason I thought about slavery and checked on the history.

Allard (R-CO) - territory open to slavery
Bond (R-MO) - slave state
Coburn (R-OK) - slave state
Cochran (R-MS) - slave state
Cornyn (R-TX) - slave state
Inhofe (R-OK) - slave state
Roberts (R-KS) -territory open to slavery
Sessions (R-AL) - NA
Stevens (R-AK) - slave state

Too scary and disgusting to want to believe any correlation, however.........

Man, that's lame. The only thing worse than not knowing anything about history is knowing just a little (that there were slave states and free states, in your case) and drawing foolish parallels.

One, you have no idea how much I know about U.S. history and two, whether the parallel is foolish or not is subjective, I pointed out the fact and I'll let other people think about what it means, if anything. I raise the point as something to ponder or not. You seem to think that one has absolutely nothing to do with the other, which MIGHT be like saying racism and slavery have nothing to do with the strength of the Republican party in the South. I am not so certain, I just found the fact interesting for a number of reasons and posted it to see what others like you thought about it. The post obviously sparked a reaction which is better from my perspective than being completely boring. I am glad you responded. It does not matter to me what position you take. I am interested in people's viewpoints, not just my own. I wouldn't post my thoughts if I wasn't looking for both positive and negative responses. Feedback is always welcome. It can only open my eyes a little more.
